Be your own witness

Alessandra Favetto - Fine art self portrait photographer

We all want to be liked. We all look for outside approval.

Whether it’s our family, our friends, our spouse, our followers or our boss, at some point we are looking for their approval.

I think it all starts at an early age.
I remember how happy I was when coming back home from school with a drawing I made for my parents, they praised me as if I was Leonardo da Vinci (they were experts in lying).

Obviously this is what parents normally do but sometimes they just over do it. As a result you grow up always looking for this outside approval, just to fit in right but compromising your own integrity, self-esteem and values.

So at some point you need the courage to stand up for your own ideas, dreams and actions, although you might not find any ally to support you.

That’s when you grow up. That’s when you learn to rely on yourself no matter what other people say or think.

At that point something magic happens: whatever you do, you enjoy it and fulfills you. And guess what? You improve your performance, you get better and start believing in a bigger and higher purpose.

You no longer need external validation to know how much you’re worth and how much you’re loved.

You just enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold.

“If you are ever tempted to look for outside approval, realize that you have compromised your integrity. If you need a witness, be your own.”

Meditating on storms in life

Meditating on storms in life
Life is easy but humans like to make it complicated and view only the negative things that pass into their lives.

No one is exempt from the storms of life. When they hit you it’s like being in a desert storm, everything turns dark and it’s impossible to find a way out.

No matter how much you struggle, turn around, escape or hide sand will always find its way through your body.

So the best thing to do when a storm arrives is to keep calm, stand fierce and listen to what the storm is trying to teach you.
More than anything trust that everything that happens to you in life is a blessing and has a purpose so live positively, overcome your fears and enjoy!

I like this quote from Robin Sharma’s book “The saint, the surfer and the ceo“:

“For your life to be great,
your faith must be bigger than your fear.”

This Nominee in the FAPA Awards reminds me of a quote I love

I’m really happy and grateful for the Nominee in the 3rd edition of “Fine Art Photography Awards 2017” (FAPA) in the photomanipulation category with my series “The traveler“.

In 2017 Fine Art Photography Awards received 6335 submissions from 89 countries around the world. Winners were selected by highly acclaimed panel of international judges, including: Tim Franco, Nadia Dias, Liza Van der Stock, Matilde Gattoni, Amélie Labourdette, Valery Klamm and Pierre Abensur.
First time for me to participate in this well-known competition together with amazing artists and photographers from all over the world.

I’m not among the winners but I’m truly happy and satisfied about my nominee. Why? Because I’ve learned to live with passion and enthusiasm, to be grateful for everything that happens in my life, to celebrate every tiny personal and artistic achievement :-))

I always think and meditate about this quote from Arthur Ashe, I love it and it’s very inspiring:

“Sucess is a journey, not a destination.
The doing is often more important than the outcome.”

I created the art I love, I participated, I got a nominee and I’m happy about it 🙂

Inspired by Shakespeare

Fine art photography by Alessandra Favetto

Inspiration comes from everywhere!

Wether it’s a song, a book, a smell, a quote or a movie, inspiration can hit you at any time and in any place.

That’s why I always keep several notebooks around, one or two at home and one following me all the time in my bag. Whenever I hear, see or experience something that is worth keeping in mind for future inspiration I write it down on my notebook. It’s a habit I have since long before starting my journey in photography so I have plenty of material to go back to when I need it.

This phrase is one of my favourites! I wrote it down on my pocket moleskine about 18 years ago! It’s from William Shakespeare‘s Hamlet:

One of the images that I can relate to this quote is the one above “Love yourself”, from the “Creatively” collection.
“This above all:
to thine own self be true,
And it must follow,
as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
Thank you William for the inspiration!

Happy Women’s Day!

“A beautiful woman
draws strength from troubles,
smiles during distress
and grows stronger with prayers & hope.
You are one of them!”

I have no idea who wrote this quote. I was googling to find out the author in order to give proper credit but couldn’t find it.
Anyway, it’s a beautiful quote and very appropriate for today’s women’s day and for the remaining 364 days of the year! Happy women’s day!

Image artwork “Pray” is from the collection “Me in many ways“.
